WINTHROP – Thomas Richard Hanson was born July 4, 1939, at Waterloo, the son of Delbert and Maralee Auten Hanson. He attended Winthrop schools. In 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1963.
Thomas was united in marriage to Alberta Weber on June 12, 1965. To this union were born two daughters: Jane and Christine.
Tom worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, for many years. The family lived in Independence, near Aurora, and finally moved to the Hanson family farm south of Winthrop. Tom liked the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying airplanes. He was very loving and giving to his family and friends, and will be missed by all.
At the age of 74 years, Thomas Hanson entered into his eternal rest on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at ABCM Rehabilitation, East Campus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Alberta, of Independence; his daughters: Jane (Mark) Leonard of Independence and Christine (Donovan) Huffaker of Newton; five grandchildren: Kelsey Leonard, Daniel (Sarah) Leonard, Nathan Leonard, and Emmeline and Zachariah Huffaker; one great granddaughter, Kaileigh Leonard; his brother, James (Marcia) Hanson of Marshalltown; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop with Father Donald J. Plamondon officiating. Interment of cremains will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. An online condolence may be sent to:
