INDEPENDENCE – Timothy "Tim" Gray, 64, of Independence, Iowa died Wednesday, July 1, at the Iowa Methodist Center in Des Moines, of a sudden illness.
Gray was born on Aug. 24, 1945 in Hull, England the son of Paul J. and Virgina M. (Bower) Gray. He came to the New York with his parents at the age of 2. He graduated from High School in New York and received an Associate Degree in Accounting from Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. He was married to Becky L. Whitaker on Jan. 14, 1974 in Independence, Iowa. Tim served in the U.S. Navy for sixteen years prior to his retirement at which time the family returned to Independence to make their home. Following his military carreer Tim was employed wth a couple of military agencies as an accountant and with Kwik Star in Independence.
He is survived by his wife Becky, Independence;, a son, David ,(Jill Bushell) Gray, Cedar Rapids; two sisters: Jane Langen, Mastic, N.Y., and Irene Avento, Cape Coral, Fla., and a brother, Peter Gray, Dunedin, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence with burial in the Wilson Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to services Monday at the funeral home. A military memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
