INDEPENDENCE – Timothy "Tim" McInteer, 81, of Independence, Iowa died Friday morning, Aug. 30, at his home in Independence.
Tim was born on July 22, 1932, in Independence, the son of Frank and Josephine (Sexton) McInteer. He graduated from the Independence High School in 1949. In August of 1955 he was married to Joanne Harland and the family farmed near Independence. In 1970s Tim owned and operated the McInteer Equipment, IH Dealership. He later worked as a union steward and eventually a foreman with Rath Packing in Waterloo, and in the maintenance department at John Deere Company until becoming an IH salesman for Independence Equipment. He also sold crop and life insurance for a short time, and in the 1980s he became employed in real-estate working for Kirkendall Real Estate, then with Stimson Real Estate until he opened the McInteer Real Estate which he operated until he became ill in August 2013. Through all of this Tim continued to farm until he rented his farmland out in 1993.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters, The Shysters Coffee Club, and the BK Coffee Club. He enjoyed watching football (Iowa Hawkeyes) telling jokes and stories, and looked forward to reading the Waterloo Courier and doing the Sudoku Puzzles.
He is survived by his wife Joanne, four children; Mike McInteer, Tempe, Ariz., Kathy (Chris) Riniker, Strawberry Point, Teresa (Bob) Schremser, and Dave McInteer of Independence, eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a sister Loretta Johnson, Independence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a great grandson; Aiden Schaffer, a sister; Mary Jo Brown, and a brother Mike McInteer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Friends called from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a rosary was recited at 3 p.m. Monday, and a parish wake service was held at 7 p.m. Monday.
