Brandon - V. John McCardle, 78, of Brandon, died on Friday, July 2, 2010, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a short illness. He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Hazleton, the son of Merritt James and Verna Mable (Blank) McCardle. He attended school in Independence. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 4, 1954, he and the former Beverly Ann Peck were married in Independence. They farmed near Brandon.
McCardle is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly; one son, Larry (Diana) McCardle of Brandon; two daughters: Ellen (Norm) Woods of Colo and Susan (Danny) Johnson of Independence and his step mother, Mary McCardle of Independence. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Merritt McCardle, Jr., of Independence, and two sisters: Elaine (Fred) Lee of Brooksville, Fla., and RoseMary (Joe) Sironen of Madison, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Ken McCardle, Rodger McCardle and Robert McCardle; three sisters: Jeanne Parrish, Marva Schmitt, and Mary Alice McCardle, and one daughter, Lynn Marie. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Burial was in Brandon Cemetery in Brandon. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 4 .m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 4th, at the funeral home.
