Independence - V. Neoma Martin , 97, went home to be with her Lord on May 15, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the First Baptist Church, Independence. A celebration of her life service begins at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Interment will be at the Walker Cemetery, Walker. Neoma was born Oct. 29, 1912 near Walker, the daughter of Everett and Alta (Dunlap) McCalley. She was united in marriage Aug. 31, 1932, to Merle Martin. They lived their married life in Independence, Cresco, Manchester, Walker, and then returned to Independence. Neoma moved to Silvercrest Assisted Living in Clive where she lived happily the last seven months of her earthly life. Neoma is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Jim) Potter, Urbandale, and by Beverly and Jim's children: Steven Potter, Marshalltown; Kimerly (Sam) Mina, Ventura, Calif; Julie (Lou) Bueno, Urbandale; Lori (Roger) Nagel, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and Lisa (Lee) Wright, Wauconda, Ill. Neoma was also dearly loved by the children of her deceased son, Dennis Martin and his wife Debra: Dr. Christopher (Amy) Martin, Macomb, Ill; Jason Martin, Williamsville, Ill.; Heather (Mark) Crites, Chatham, Ill.; and Devin Martin, Rockford, Ill. Neoma was blessed with 18 great grandchildren, a beloved nephew, Gerald McCalley, several other nieces and nephews, and many friends. Neoma was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, her husband, Merle Martin, their son, Dennis and his wife, Debra, and her second husband, John Muchmore. Memorial contributions may be given in her name to First Baptist Church, Independence, IA, or to Mercy Hospice, 5820 Winwood Dr., Johnston, IA 50131.
