INDEPENDENCE - Valerie O. Martinson, 51, of Independence, Iowa died Tuesday morning, November 10th, 2009 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness.
Val was born on March 15, 1958 the daughter of Charles M. and Joyce A. (Cornwell) Prentice, Sr. She was a 1976 graduate of the Independence High School and received an accounting certificate from Hawkeye Technical School, Waterloo, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Daniel J. Martinson on March 26, 1977 in Independence. She was employed with the Independence Community School District for 28 years as a bookkeeper/secretary in the district office and for the last two years as a secretary in the Guidance Office at the High School.
She is survived by her husband Dan Martinson, Independence, two daughters; Tara Martinson, Savage, MN, and Leah Martinson, Independence, IA., three grandchildren; Treon, Kaden, and Alayna, her mother; Joyce A. Prentice, Johnston, IA., two sisters; Vanessa Myers, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Berta Aldrich, Chester Springs, PA., and two brothers; Jeffery Prentice, Johnston, IA., and Charles Prentice, Jr., Dodge Center, MN.
She was preceded in death by her father Charles M. Prentice, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, November 14th, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 2 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence and from 9 A.M. till services Saturday at the Church.
