WATERLOO - Virgie Johnson, 87, of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 9, at her home at Rosewood Estate in Waterloo.
She was born in Quasqueton, on Sept. 3, 1923, the daughter of Charles Franklin and Bertha (Gipe) Holman. She attended the Buchanan County country schools. In 1941, she and Stanley S. Baker were married in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1960.
On Dec. 29, 1962, she and Warren E. Johnson were married in Waterloo. He preceded her in death in 1987. In her later years, Mrs. Johnson enjoyed the company of a special friend, Harry Cornwell, who died in 2003.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, one daughter, Carol McGinnis of Missouri, her twin brother, Virgil (Dorothy) Holman of Waterloo, and one sister, Lucille (Elmore) Herold of Waterloo. She is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Cathy (John) Baker Poots of Waterloo, one sister-in-law, Lora Stockton of Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Stanley R. Baker and Roger Baker, three brothers, Ray Holman, Charlie Holman, and Gerald Holman, and three sisters, Laura Neff, Bernice Cerveny, and Mildred Yanda.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at White Funeral Home of Independence. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
