WINTHROP – Vivian Joan Brace Quint was born August 25, 1933 at Diagonal, and the daughter of Anna Maxine Brace. She grew up in the Winthrop area and graduated with the Winthrop High School class of 1951.
Joan was united in marriage to Howard Arthur Quint on June 19, 1951, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Winthrop. To this union were born five children: Deanna, Joseph, Denise, Jeff, and Dana. They farmed north of Winthrop for many years while raising their family and moved to Winthrop when they retired. Together they operated a child day care in their home. Howard entered into his eternal rest on Nov. 2, 1998. In 2009, she moved to West Village Care Center in Independence.
Joan liked reading, crocheting, and playing cards. She was a member of a couples card club for almost 50 years. She liked being a homemaker, cooking, and her kids in her child care.
Joan entered into her eternal rest on Thursday, Sept. 27, at West Village Care Center in Independence at the age of 79 years.
Preceding her in death was her mother; her husband, Howard; her son, Joseph; and her grandson, Chancey Olsen.
Survivors include her three daughters: Deanna (Clyde) Wilson of Cedar Rapids; Denise (Roger) Olsen of Winthrop; and Dana (Jerry) Bostian of Oelwein; her son, Jeff (Laurie) Quint of Cedar Rapids; fourteen grandchildren: Quinton (Kristin) Wilson, Zachary (Cherisse) Wilson, Teylor (Tex) Goates, Elliot Wilson; Cory (B.J) Olsen, and Rick, Brandin and Octavianna Olsen; Murphy, Nolan, Hunter, and Matteson Quint; and Levi and Emma Bostian; nine great grandchildren; step dad, James Donnelly of Winthrop; her sister, Susan Thimmesch of Winthop;, and a niece, Heather Thimmesch of Winthrop.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Winthrop with Father Donald J. Plamondon officiating. Music provided by Ann Slattery and ST. Patrick's Choir. Lector will be Deanna Wilson. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Winthrop. Casketbearers will be grandsons: Quinton Wilson, Zachary Wilson, Elliot Wilson, Cory Olsen, Rick Olsen, Brandin Olsen, Murphy Quint, Nolan Quint, Hunter Quint, and Levi Bostian.
Friends may call from 2:30 until 6 p.m. Sunday and until 10 a.m. Monday at Fawcett's Funeral Home in Winthrop with a Scripture service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
