Obituary

WINTHROP – William L. Shafer, 58, of Winthrop, died Sunday, May 28, 2017 at his home in Winthrop.
Bill was born on September 3, 1958 in Waterloo, the son of William E. and Marcella C. (Landyut) Shafer. He was a 1977 graduate of the East Buchanan High School, and attended Hawkeye Community College. In 1979 he married Jamie Hare, but were later divorced. On December 28, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nev., Bill married the love of his life Donna "DeAnn" Peyton and they made their home in Winthrop. He is survived by his father William (Jeanice) Shafer, Winthrop; wife, DeAnn, Winthrop; a son; Nicholas (Melissa) Shafer, Castle Rock, Colo.; two granddaughters: Annabelle, and Addison Shafer, Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters: Deb Green, Conrad, and Marilyn (Bill) Crow) Quasqueton; a brother, John (Terri) Shafer, Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Shafer; a sister, Jennifer Shafer; and a brother-in-law, Charles Green.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Winthrop, with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be held at the Fremont Cemetery in Winthrop. Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, and from 9 a.m. till services on Thursday.
