Rita (Aunt Helen) (Helen Cook) (Auntie) came to St. Francis, Kan. with her mother, Viola R. Heinrich in 1925. Viola married James Cook. Rita grew up near St. Francis, Kan. on a rural farm community in Western Kansas.

She was baptized Jan. 12, 1941 at the Christian Church in St. Francis. Rita attended country school and graduated from St. Francis Community High School with the class of 1942. Rita taught in School District #32 (Plum Creek) from Sept. 6, 1943 until April 14, 1944. The class aged from 7 to 14 years old and the grades taught were 2nd through 8th.

On Sept. 6, 1944 Rita married the love of her life, Leo Schuricht, in Walla Walla, Wash. where Leo was serving on a combat crew in the US Air Force during World War II.

Rita worked for Pacific Data Service as an accountant and joined Pacific Supple Company in 1947 where Leo was already working.
They both worked in Walla Walla for 18 years before moving to Portland, Ore. in 1962.

Rita became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Beaverton, Ore. on Sept. 18, 1966.

Her church family was very important to her and continued to be important to her when she made the move to Colorado.

After retirement, there was Friendly Club and enjoyed many activities including quilting, preparing bulletins for church services and special occasions, and prepared food for special events.

Rita especially loved her humming birds and her flower garden which included many tulips, daffodils, roses, and hydrangea.

She was involved in a garden club where she would get the latest tips on growing the perfect flowers. Her yard and flowers were a beautiful and well kept as her home.

In April 2011, Rita moved to an assisted living facility in the Colorado Spring area to be closer to family. She so missed her "Portland" friends and looked forward to those weekly letters, notes and telephone calls. In September 2011 she moved to Pikes Peak Care Center nursing home, in Colorado Springs.

Rita passed away at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs Friday, March 1, 2013, at the age of 89. She just gently went to sleep in the Lord. She was blessed with the love and care of family and friends.
