Ruby Mae (Keys) Cloyd Obituary
Ruby Mae Keys Cloyd, 87 of Goodland, Kan. passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rawlins, Wyo. with her daughter by her side.

Ruby had fought the battle of her life after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and then stage 4 breast cancer two years ago.

Ruby was born Dec. 16, 1925, to Talbert and Verna Mae Hill Keys at her grandparents' home in Payne, Iowa.

On May 29, 1942, she married Vernon LeRoy "Jack" Cloyd in Rock Port, Mo. Ruby later followed him to California where he served in the Army during World War II.

Ruby worked at a factory putting 35mm shells together.

After the war two daughters were born to this union, Twila and Sandee.

Jack and Ruby worked the rest of their lives in the retail business; they ran stores in Goodland, Kan., Rawlins Wyo. and Denver.

Jack and Ruby retired to Goodland in the 1980s. Ruby continued to work in retail; she worked at Schneider's, Collage Unlimited and J.C. Penney's. Ruby was 82 when she finally retired.

Ruby was passionate about her family, friends and country music. She loved celebrating holidays and birthdays with her family and made each one special.

Ruby found great pleasure in spending time with her grandkids and especially her great grandkids.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Cloyd, daughter Sandee Franz, son-in-law Joel Franz and her brother Talbert Keys Jr.

Ruby is survived by her daughter Twila (Kelly) Hawbaker of Rawlins Wyo.; grandchildren – Kel-lie Jo Hawbaker of Rawlins, Wyo., Kari Hawbaker of Grand Junction, Justin (Gianina) Franz of Burlington, Jolynne (Eric) Hoyda of Kirk, Jasalyn (Casey) Hays of Burlington; great-grandchildren – Owen Hawbaker of Rawlins, Wyo., Oden, Ivy and Rune Pederson of Grand Junction, Tennisen, Maddisen and Kagen Hoyda of Kirk, Tyrell Homm, Wyatt Hays and Maguire Franz all of Burlington.

Ruby is also survived by her special friends; Elmira David, Vola Fenner, Renita and Don Artzer, Holly Bradshaw; the Franz families, her morning coffee group and friends at the towers.

Funeral services were held, Friday, May 3, 2013, at Bateman Funeral Home in Goodland, Kan., at 10:30 a.m.

Interment was at the Kanorado Cemetery, Kanorado, Kan. Memorials can be sent to Bateman Funeral Home 211 E. 11th, Goodland, KS 67735.
