Mabel Elaine McArthur was born on March 1, 1918 to Fred Martens and Rena Flegg Martens and passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014 in Berthoud. |
Mabel was united in marriage to Russell McArthur on May 29, 1938. Mabel and Russell had two children, Theodore and Gwendolyn.
Mabel spent several years working at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital as a CNA and loved working with the people there and caring for the sick.
Although there was never a firemen's auxiliary for the wives of the local firemen, Mabel always took great pride in keeping the station wagon clean and helping out wherever possible.
Mabel never shirked helping whenever she was needed. She did this for many years while Russell was the fire chief.
Mabel belonged to the quilting club and made many beautiful quilts.
Mabel was always busy helping others however she could, but nothing meant as much to her as her family.
Some of her family's fondest memories are of her wonderful homemade bread, pies, cinnamon rolls and other baked goods. She was always baking something awesome.
Mabel could always be called upon to make school outfits, she would buy the fabric and patterns that her family would pick out, and make it "just right."
Mabel enjoyed playing cards and visiting about her family with anyone that would listen.
Mabel was a mainstay in the lives of all of her family and each and every one has many special memories and a rich family heritage to be very proud of. The list of family memories can go on and on, but perhaps one of the things about Mabel that her family will miss most is her ability to make life fun and her contagious laughter.
Mabel is missed and survived by her children Theodore and Gwendolyn as well as by her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sister-in-law Valta Martens.
