DANIEL R. SHEA - BURLINGTON - Daniel (Dan) Richard Shea, 54, died unexpectedly while recovering from a brief illness, at his home, on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. He was born May 9, 1958, the son of the late Donald E. and Teresa V. Shea. Dan was a lifelong resident of Burlington, growing up on Caroline Street. He attended Christ the King School and graduated from Burlington High in 1976. At BHS, he participated in the printing program, and his first job after graduation was with the George Little Press. He worked in the printing field for over 30 years. In addition to George Little, he worked at Horseman Company, VT Print and Mail and Champlain Valley Printing. Most recently he was employed at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts as a customer service representative, where he was able to combine his work with his passion for music. Dan loved sports, as both a player and a spectator. As a boy he was involved in BAHA Hockey, CYO basketball league, and Little League Baseball. He played high school basketball and later participated in the South Park Men's basketball league. Dan coached a Little League Baseball team for several years. He was a wonderful role model and enjoyed giving everyone on the team the opportunity to play and enjoy the game. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees, Jets, Knicks and the Montreal Canadians and looked forward to watching any and all games throughout the various seasons. Dan was also an avid bike rider. As soon as the weather was warm enough in the spring, he would head out on the bike path getting a ride in as often as he could. Anyone who knew Dan, knew he was a great "lover of music". He started as early as ten years old collecting 45's and hanging the record jackets on his bedroom wall. Over the years, he enjoyed reading about and listening to a variety of performers, especially The Beatles. Dan was also a follower of the Grateful Dead and attended many concerts across the Northeast. Dan enjoyed spending time with his family. Growing up, there were many family picnics, years of camping, and 24-hour car rides to Florida. The family always enjoyed being together, whether it was celebrating a wedding, the birth of a new niece or nephew, or a simple summer cookout by the pool. Dan is survived by his three sisters, Donna Emerson Francke and her husband, Jim, of Summerfield, Fla., Dale Thibault and her husband, Norman, of Colchester, and Diane Robinson and her husband, Mark, of Attleboro, Mass.; nieces and nephews, Krista (Emerson) Porter and her husband, Will, Katie (Emerson) Bean and her husband, Todd, Eric Thibault and his wife, Jen, Rachel (Thibault) Bouvier and her husband, Chad, Scott Thibault and his wife, Cassie, Teresa (Robinson) Carpenter and her husband, Larry, Alex Robinson and Curtis Robinson; and four great-nieces and three great-nephews. His good friends Steve Rousseau and his wife, Tammie, and George Benton and his wife, Lisa - they were always there for Dan when he needed them. Visiting hours will be held at the Ready Funeral Home South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington, on Friday, March 1, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ready Funeral Home with burial immediately following at New Mount Calvary Cemetery. My condolences to the family for the loss of Dan. I met him only a few times when he worked at Horseman. He was great with color and I will always remember the vivid lavendar/blue/mauve plaid shirt he often wore at the time. Those colors and his smile will stick with me always.
