Policy Regarding the Placement of Obituaries in the Burlington Free Press br>
It is our policy to accept obituaries primarily from funeral directors who have the necessary experience, knowledge and techniques to provide us with the information and verification we need in an accurate and orderly way.
However, there are certain instances where we do accept obituaries from family and friends. In such cases we will ask for information to assist us with our verification procedures.
• In the event the remains of the deceased are being donated to a university or medical facility, we will need the name of the institution as well as a phone number or email address for verification with their anatomical donation program.
• In the event arrangements for the deceased are being handled out of area, we require the name, address and phone number or email address of the out of area funeral director so that we may verify the death.
• In some cases, we may also require a death certificate.
