ALCIDE A. "BUTCH" BOUCHER - MILTON - Alcide "Butch" Boucher, 66, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 20, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Butch was born in Burlington, July 26, 1947, to Alcide and Rose Boucher (Rouille). On Oct. 6, 1966, he was married to Linda Mae Gillilan at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Burlington, and they were inseparable partners for 39 years, until she passed away May 26, 2006; they are together forever once again. As they chose to engrave on their headstone, "Always been, Always will be." After high school, he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Forrestal, CVA-59, during the Vietnam War, surviving a major fire on board, and receiving a commendation for meritorious performance during the disaster. On Aug. 5, 1968, he began his life's work with the Burlington Fire Department, retiring as Battalion Chief on May 5, 2001. During his 33 years of service, he saved many lives and trained many "probies." He truly loved his job and his BFD family; his hope was that everyone he trained would do the same. Away from work, he lived a very active life that included turkey hunting, deer hunting, camping, boating, fishing, softball, motorcycling and bowling. There are several turkey hunters to whom he was able to pass on his passion, and bagged their first longbeards while hunting with him. He enjoyed several years playing on the same softball team as his sons, and he bowled in three leagues at Spare Time Lanes. His presence there will be dearly missed. He is survived by his sons, Dan and wife, Kathy, of Milton, and Jim of Franklin, N.H., and his longtime friend, Nancy Veronneau, of Burlington; sisters, Betty and husband, Earnest Gratton, of Florida, Pat and Bob Carman of Colchester, and Judith Boucher of Burlington, and her partner, Duane Spaulding, of Fairfield; brother-in-law, Gary and wife, Sandra; and sisters-in-law, Lynn Gillilan of Milton, and Judi Gillilan of Fletcher. He was predeceased by his sister, Bernadette Lopresti. Whether he was known as Dad, Butch, BC Boucher, Uncle Butch, Grampa Butch, or Butchie, he is loved and missed by many. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington.
