BRUCE E. NYE - MONKTON - Bruce E. Nye, 78, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, with his family by his side. He was born in Foster, R.I., Oct. 8, 1934, the son of the late Ernest and Bertha (Borders) Nye. He was raised in Rhode Island until he entered the Marine Corps, where he served for three years during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Mae Nichols in Raleigh, N.C., on Sept. 17, 1954. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. They lived in Rhode Island before moving to Vermont to farm in 1965, and found their "home." Bruce was a former member of Vermont National Resources, VAST director of Addison County and enjoyed snowmobiling. He helped form the Monkton Volunteer Fire Department and was an active member. Bruce and Mae ran a square dance hall in South Weymouth, Mass., and were western style dancers for many years. They also liked camping and they camped across country in 2004-2005 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. He is survived by his wife, Mae; two sons, Bryan (Dru), and Barry (Katherine); two daughters, Brenda Nye Lattrell (Dan), and Belinda Nye Nixon (Rusty); sister, Barbara Nye Gorham (John); and 11 grandchildren, James, Benjamin and Bryce Nye, Daniel, Jacob and Joshua Nye, Laurel and Amber Lattrell, Emily, Anna and Laura Nixon; and several nieces and nephews. At Bruce's request there will be no calling hours, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
