Diane C. (Liberty) Benway

DIANE C. (LIBERTY) BENWAY BURLINGTON - Diane C. (Liberty) Benway, 67, of Burlington, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 in the Birchwood Terrace Healthcare Center following a lingering illness. She was born in Burlington on March 2, 1941, the daughter of Thomas and Beatrice (Dusablon) Liberty. She attended Burlington Schools. On Sept. 19, 1964, Diane married Earl R. Benway in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Diane liked being a hockey mom when her son was a member of the area youth hockey program and enjoyed being around children so much that she chose to work at C.P. Smith Elementary School hot lunch program. She worked and had fun there for many years. After retiring from the school, Diane developed a passion for traveling which she did whenever she could. Among other places, she loved to travel to Florida to visit her grandson Cameron. When she was home, she loved going shopping an out to lunch with her sister, Tanny and good friends from McAuley Square. Diane is survived by her husband, Earl of Burlington; her son, Earl L. and his wife, Jennifer, of Colchester; her grandson who was her pride and joy, Cameron of Florida; brothers and sisters, Paul of Florida, Pauline Paul of So. Burlington, Frances Ries and Gordon, of Burlington and Richard of Colchester; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Liberty, her mother Beatrice Held, and a brother, Wayne. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at 4 p.m. in the Ready Funeral Chapel, 934 North Ave. Burial will be private in New Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Diane's memory may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 100 Dorset St. #13, South Burlington, VT 05403.
