DOROTHY EMMA BESSETTE - KINGSTON, N.Y. - Dorothy Emma Bessette, 91, of Kingston, N.Y., formally of Burlington and Colchester, Vt., died Dec. 23, 2013 in Northern Dutchess Hospital. She was born in Burlington, a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Alice Kieslich Mills. She married Donald R. Bessette on Feb. 8, 1942. In her earlier years, Dorothy worked at J.C.Penney and as a bank teller at the Merchant's Bank. She belonged to the Heineburg Senior Center and was an avid crocheter and crafter. Dorothy was active with the Red Hatters and volunteered for R.S.V.P. For over 50 years, Dorothy lived on Locust Terrace and then moved to Colchester for five years. She spent the remainder of her life with her daughter, Deborah, where she was lovingly cared for by her family. Beloved wife of the late Donald R. Bessette; loving mother of Deborah E. Bessette and her life partner, Steve Doris of Kingston, N.Y., the late Donald R. Bessette Jr. who died in 1996 and the late Douglas E. Bessette who died in 1985; grandmother of Stacey Leigh Valerio and husband, Michael, Melissa N. Bierstock and husband, David, and Sarah Alice Bierstock-Rosen and husband, Chris; great-grandmother of Tate Michael and Ava May Valerio, and Emma and Eli Loewen; and aunt of Tom and Carol Godbout. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ruth Godbout who died in 2005. She leaves her sisters-in-law, Geraldine Varricchione, Beulah Delibac, Janet Hale and husband, Robert; brother-in-law, Earl Bessette and wife, Carolyn; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on May 17, 2014, at Holy Cross Church in Malletts Bay, at 11 a.m. Inurment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington. There will be a reception to greet relatives and friends after the burial at Holy Cross Church Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the or Vermont Cares.
