EDWARD GEORGE CHARBONNEAU - NORTH FERRISBURGH - Edward George Charbonneau, affectionately known as Big Ed, passed away on June 25, 2013, at the age of 81. Big Ed left an indelible mark on his family, friends and community. Born and raised in Vergennes, he was a graduate of Old Vergennes High School at the age of 16. He was the Postmaster of Vergennes for many years and retired from the Postal Service at age 55. He had a quick wit and loved a good game of pinochle. His true passion was his family. Ed is survived by his loving and caring wife, Jacquelyn Charbonneau; his siblings, Tom Charbonneau, and Marcia Hay; his children and their significant others, Patty Duffy and Bill Thomson, Jacqueline Christie, Jill Charbonneau, Jocelyn and John Barton, Mary and James Griffin, Susan Cullen and John Ball, Colleen and Robert Millstone, Julie and Hank Elitzer, Edward Charbonneau and Corinne Morris, Paul Charbonneau and Amy Parah, Thornton Charbonneau, Jennifer and Shawn Arthurs, and Dennielle and Michael Brinkman; and dear family friend, Gordon Turpin. He was grandpa and Poppa Ed to 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Gladys Wimette and George Charbonneau; sisters, Marie Butterfield, Joanne Charbonneau, Barbara Costello, Ellen Brownell and Jacqueline Agnes Charbonneau. Ed served in the Korean War
, was a retired Command Sargent Major from headquarter at headquarters 1st Battalion 86th Field Artillery Williston National Guard. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 14 for many years, and a volunteer fire fighter
in North Ferrisburgh. He shall be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, at St. Peter's Church in Vergennes. Interment will be private. Friends may call at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes on Thursday, June 27, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bixby Library, 258 Main St., Vergennes, VT 05491.
