HERBERT L. MITCHELL

HERBERT L. MITCHELL - ST. ALBANS - Herbert L. Mitchell passed away at sunrise this Memorial Day weekend with his son, Lewis Mitchell, and granddaughter, Renee Chevalier, at his side. Herb was 90 years old, and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Reatha (Hope) Mitchell, whom he cared for at his home for eight years. Together, in their spare time, they loved to play cribbage. Legend has it that people would say, "If Herb Mitchell couldn't fix it, no one could." He was community oriented and took on many projects, including rebuilding the Bells of St. Luke's Church, installing the first motorized rope tow at Hard'ack ski area, and restoring the fountain in Taylor Park. Other activities that Herb enjoyed were hunting at his deer camp in Fayston, "fishing at his favorite secret fishing hole," camping at Lake Eden, and fly tying in his free time.
