JAMES WILLIAM LAVANWAY - JONESVILLE - James William Lavanway, of Jonesville, died early on March 15, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. James, who was "Jim" to his friends and "Bumpa" to his family, was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Richmond. In the church, he was a 3rd degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, Religious Education Director, on the Pastoral Board, and a Eucharistic Minister for many years. James graduated from Richmond High School in 1952, and served in the Army
during the Korean War
. He worked at General Electric Supply for over 30 years, and had most recently worked for Richmond Home Supply for several years. James is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Quinn) Lavanway of Jonesville; daughters, Ann Lavanway and Matt Vincenti of Thetford Center, Colleen and Frank Decker of Richmond, and Mary Lavanway and Pete Thompson of Hampden, Maine; son, James "Jamie" and Jane Lavanway of Jonesville; son-in-law, John and Ellen Pomer of Lyndeborough, N.H.; grandchildren, Corey Decker of Fletcher, Brett Decker of Underhill, Alysa Pomer of Binghamton, N.Y., Colin Pomer of Waterbury Center, Evelyn Thompson and Blake Thompson of Hampden, Maine, Jimmy Lavanway and Kate Lavanway of Jonesville; one great-grandchild, Claire Pomer of Waterbury Center; sister, Norma (Lavanway) Young and Jim Young of Georgia, and their family; and brother-in-law, Bernard Quinn of Jonesville, and his family. James was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marian McCullough; daughter, Theresa (Lavanway) Pomer; and sister-in-law, Janet (Goodrich) Quinn. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dan Noyes of Richmond Home Supply, the community of Richmond and all of his friends for their generous love and support during this last year, and the Visiting Nurse Association hospice team. Visitation will be held at Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot St., Richmond, on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church in Richmond on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. Remembrances can be left online at www.facebook.com/groups/remembering jimmy/
