JOAN AGUIRRE - SOUTH BURLINGTON - Joan Eftihia Aguirre, 83, of South Burlington died on Dec. 31, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care. She was born on Feb. 8, 1930, in Nashua, N.H., the daughter of the late Sam and Mildred (Burnham) Dachos. She graduated from Nashua High School Class of 1947 and Vermont Junior College in 1949. Joan lived in Essex Junction for 30 years and moved to South Burlington in 1983. She worked at IBM from 19721991. Joan was a member of the First Congregational Church in Essex Junction where she served on many committees. She was Past President of Chittenden BPW, Bethany Chapter #71 Essex Junction, a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary, Smugglers Notch 55+ Club, and served as Girl's State Chair of Franklin County from 2003-2004. In 1990, she opened a catering business called "Affairs" which she operated for ten years. Her love of cooking came from her Greek heritage. She also loved to ski and play golf. She was married in 1950 to Ramon J. Aguirre and divorced in 1982. Joan is survived by her children, Pamela Shover and husband, David, of Underhill, and Sharon Davis of Underhill; her very special granddaughter, Chelsea Davis Brittain and husband, Adam, and her new great-granddaughter, Lilah Rose Brittain all of Biddeford, Maine; David's daughter, Karen Gokey and husband, Justin, and their daughter, Ashley of Westford; her sisters, Elaine Ethier of Nashua, N.H., and Lucille Gelpi and husband, Phil, of Seattle, Wash.; her brother, James Dachos and wife, Lucille, of South Hadley, Mass.; a very close niece, Karen Fenn of Villa Park, Calif.; her sister-in-law, Carmen Stewart of Braintree, Mass.; and by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends. She is also survived by her longtime friend, Honora "Bud" Bechard and family of Swanton. She was predeceased by her daughter, Anna Maria Aguirre in 1989; her brother, John Dachos; sister, Melba Congleton; and her former husband, Ramon Aguirre. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Essex Junction.
