JOHN W. LYNN - BOCA RATON, Fla. - On Nov.25, 2013, John W. "Bud" Lynn passed peacefully from this world with a smile on his face and a joke in his heart. He was at the Boca Raton Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 4, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Tom and Olga Lynn. He graduated from Jamaica High School where he excelled in sports, and attended Syracuse University from 1939-1941. Bud served in the Army
Air Corps during WWII
. While stationed in North Africa, his plane was shot down during the invasion of Italy. He received the Purple Heart
and air medal with eight oak leaf clusters, for his 46 missions. He returned home and married the love of his life, Adele Grant, and began his successful career with the F.W. Woolworth Co. He started in the stockroom and moved up very quickly. He held many positions in the company, Northeastern regional vice-president, Mid-Atlantic regional vice president, senior vicepresident of merchandising, president of the company. He retired as Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Woolworth Corporation Worldwide. He served on the board of directors for Borden Inc., F.W. Woolworth Ltd. Canada, Woolworth Mexicana, Kinney shoes and Foot Locker. Bud and Adele lived in Greenwich, Conn., for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Agnes Church. After retirement, they moved to Boca Raton, Fla., where he was a parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Church. Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Adele Grant Lynn. He also leaves four children, Suzanne Lynn Falkenbush (Richard) of South Burlington, Dianne Lynn Nofi of Long Island, N.Y., Robert Grant Lynn (Lottie) of Stamford, Conn., and J.Thomas Lynn (Julie) of New Canaan, Conn.; 12 grandchildren, Amy VanderNeut (Paul), Lisa Lubas (Mike), Michael Nofi (Christie), Nicole Nicastro (Nick), Jamie Falkenbush (Willow), Greg Nofi, Melissa Miele (Mike), Jennifer Adler (Elliot), Jessica Lynn, Ryan Lynn (Taylor), Chris Lynn (Ashley), and Taylor Lynn; 15 great-grandchildren, Katie, Alexa, Nicholas, Morganne, Tim, Haley, Emily, Annalise, Michael, Elizabeth, Sawyer, Grady, Lincoln, Olivia, and Hunter Jean. He also leaves his devoted caregiver Silvia, and her loving family. The true meaning of a man's success is in the lives he touched. With a warm smile, quick wit, and hearty laugh, Bud Lynn touched many lives all over the world. Funeral arrangements will be made by Babione Funeral Home, Boca Raton, Fla. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warriors Project.
