KARLA RAE SPAULDING - STOWE - Karla Rae Spaulding, 49, surrounded by her loving family, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, in the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., due to complications from liver disease. She was born Nov. 3, 1963, in Morrisville. Karla lived her entire life in Stowe, having recently renovated her father's childhood home. She graduated from Stowe High School in 1981 where she was actively involved in sports, playing field hockey, basketball and softball; and was class treasurer for three years. She went on to earn a degree at Champlain College in Accounting/ Data Processing. Karla worked as the Finance Manager/Treasurer for the Town of Stowe for over 25 years. She took great pride in her work. She understood her responsibility to the town and was a dedicated employee with a strong work ethic. One of Karla's greatest attributes was the enthusiasm she exhibited when participating in activities she enjoyed, including hunting, fishing, skiing, baking and gardening. For many years she could be found casting a line into the Willoughby River in Orleans at first light on opening day of trout season. She will be remembered for her terrific smile, her homemade baked goods, and her feisty and independent spirit. Karla is survived by her parents, Kermit and Hazel (Titus) Spaulding; her grandmother, Evelyn Titus; her sister, Kim Drury and husband, Ben, of Essex Junction; her sister, Kaisa Lewia and husband, David, of Stowe; her niece, Haley; nephews, Kristopher and Keith; many aunts, uncles and cousins; her good friend, Frank See; many close and lifelong friends; and her much-loved kitty, "Baby Buker." A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Stowe Community Church. Interment will be in Riverbank Cemetery. White-Fiess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to express their gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received from the community and for the compassionate and quality care Karla received from Lamoille Home Health, Dr. Kiely, as well as the staff at the Lahey Clinic.
