MARGOT H. SMITH

MARGOT H. SMITH - WILLISTON - Margot Ruth Hageman Smith, 84, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, in the Vermont Respite House in Williston. Born on Aug. 12, 1929, to Roy and Ruth Hageman of Short Hills, N.J., her family spent summers at their beloved farm in Hartland, Vt. After graduating from Colby Junior College, Margot worked as a reporter for the Newark Evening News. Devoted to her family, Margot continued to work as reporter and food editor for the Red Bank Register and cultivated a broad range of creative and volunteer interests. Later in life, she relocated from the New Jersey to California, where she completed her B.S. degree and began a new phase of her career in the public relations field. She returned to family roots in the Hartland/Windsor, Vt., area and then moved to Burlington in 2005. Margot is survived by four children, Lorrie Smith (Jack Bradt) of Winooski, Jeanette Smith of Santa Cruz, Calif., Anne Smith (John Alleyne) of London, England, and Jay Smith of La Fortuna, Costa Rica; and five grandchildren, Vanessa Smith Gaumer, Seth Turiansky, Abbie Turiansky, Hannah Smith, and Olivia Smith. A gathering to celebrate Margot's life will be held at Burlington Friends Meeting House on Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. Donations in her name can be made to Windsor County Partners, 54 Main St., Windsor, VT 05089.
