RALPH E. "PEANUT" BARRY SR. - WATERVILLE - Ralph E. "Peanut" Barry Sr., 88, a longtime resident of Waterville, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, in Copley Hospital in Morrisville with his loving family at his side. Born in Belvidere, March 8, 1925, he was a son of the late Rolla Barry Sr. and Nettie (Tanner) Barry. On May 24, 1947, Peanut married the former Nancy Edna Bennett in Hyde Park, who passed away on Oct. 5, 2011. Ralph was an Army
veteran of World War II
, and was later employed as a truck driver first for Manchester Lumber and then Parker & Stearns. He also farmed and raised heifers. In his youth, he enjoyed rabbit hunting and later years, fishing. After his retirement, Peanut spent many enjoyable hours with his family and friends at his camp on Lake Carmi. One of his greatest enjoyments was spending time with his family, playing cards and "marbles," especially with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed country music, watching westerns and RFD-TV. Peanut is survived by his three children, Edna Lafountain and husband, Dereck, of Waterville, Barbara Lowell and husband, Michael, of Wolcott, and Ralph E. Barry II of Waterville; 10 grandchildren, Dereck, Julie, David, Jamie, Dondi, Michelle, Kimberly, Christopher, Corey, and Adam; and 24 great-grandchildren. He also leaves four brothers, Rolla Barry Jr. of Hyde Park, Donald Barry and wife, Freda, of Belvidere, Richard Barry and wife, Claudette, of Hyde Park, and Roy Barry and wife, Barbara, of Hyde Park; four sisters, Mildred Wescom of Richford, Wanda Lanpher of Johnson, Nelda Bennett of Eden, and Joyce Messier and husband, Larry, of Enosburg; sister-in-law, Alberta Genetti of Bedford, Mass.; brothers-in-law, Edward Bennett of Belvidere, and Dallas Bennett and wife, Marylin, of Waterville.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Nancy, and his parents, Peanut was predeceased by a grandson, Tyler Barry; brothers, Kenneth and Lloyd; and an infant sister, Maryann. Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in the Waterville Town Hall, Waterville, from 1 to 3 p.m. A graveside service will be held this spring in the Mountain View Cemetery in Waterville, at a date and time to be announced.
