MR. RICHARD "RICK" C. RAYTA - CANTON, Ga. - Mr. Richard "Rick" C. Rayta, 69, of Canton, Ga., passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014, in Emory Midtown Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. He was born to parents, Richard C. Rayta Sr. and Dora (Briener) Rayta. Mr. Rayta served in the US Navy, Army and Air Force. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Medal of Honor. Mr. Rayta retired from the Air Force and was a retired Chemical Engineer for Schweitzer-Mauduit. He was a member of the American Legion Post 45, and the Canton Family Moose Center. He was predeceased by sister, Maureen Hopkins, and is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dawn Rayta of Canton; daughters, Shawnette Whitehead and Tammie Schofield, both of Canton; grandchildren, Cole Whitehead, Chelsea Schofield and Chloe Schofield; siblings, Donald Rayta of Waterville, Vt., and Cathy L. Cross of St. Albans, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Jimmy Gayton officiating.
