RODNEY "PETE" M. LANPHEAR - MORRISVILLE - Rodney M. Lanphear, 79, passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2013. Pete was born on March 16, 1934, in Lowell, the son of Wyman Sr. and Helen (Durivage) Lanphear. He was a graduate of Lamoille Central Academy in Hyde Park. He married Janet Buker on April 22, 1953, and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Pete and Janet purchased his grandmother's dairy farm, consisting of registered Jerseys, which he successfully managed for 45 years. Pete worked for Trombley Trucking from 1968 to 1983 as a mechanic and scheduler for truck drivers. He also cut Christmas trees every fall for 40 years. He was instrumental in establishing the Lamoille River Swingers square dance club. After retiring from farming, he spent a lot of time at the Rooney Farm. In his pastime, he loved working in his vegetable gardens, baking, watching sports, and enjoyed the frequent turkey and deer visits. His true passion was sugaring, which continued through spring of 2013. Pete is survived by his wife, Janet of Morrisville; six children, Glory (Richard) Reinstein of Colchester, Doreen Farquharson of Morrisville, Sharon (Robert) Sylvester of Swanton, Joni (Michael) Paritz of Morrisville, Peter Lanphear and partner, Lance Hauser, of North Troy, and Penni (Jefferson) Rochette of Colchester, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Gregory, Gwendolyn, Charity, Amber, Loren, Stephanie, Sydney, and Taylor; and five great-grandchildren, Brennan, Evan, Aurora, Emily, and Logan. Pete leaves his sisters, Mary Griswold, Ruth Chase, Carole Parker, and Wanda Allaire; brothers, Wyman Jr., Russell, Joseph, and Calvin; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen in 1994, and Wyman Sr. in 1995; and sister, Florence Tallman in 2008. Pete was a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to many. He was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards and associations including the United Farmers Board; Morristown Fire Warden for 15 years; Board of Supervisors for the NRCD (Natural Resource Conservation District) for over 20 years, Chairman of the Board for 16 years; Lamoille County Farm Bureau Board; and Eastern AI Board for several years. He volunteered for the Lamoille County 4th Grade Farm Tour at area farms, and for the Envirothon for many years. He was a longtime member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, Bliss Lodge #44, in Hyde Park; and was a member of Charity Rebekah Lodge #38 of Hyde Park. As a cancer survivor, he participated in the Lamoille Area Cancer Network. A visitation for friends and family will be held Friday, May 24, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at White-Fiess Funeral Home, 165 Brooklyn St., Morrisville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Puffer United Methodist Church in Morrisville. Interment to follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. A gathering will follow at the VFW Post #7779 in Hyde Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Lamoille County Nature Center, 109 Professional Drive, Morrisville, VT 05661; Lanpher Memorial Library, P.O. Box 196, Hyde Park, VT 05655; or Lamoille Home Health Agency, 54 Farr Avenue, Morrisville, VT 05661. The family would like to thank Dr. Roy and Dr. Kunin for their medical advice and friendship over the past several months.
