VELMA J. BRIGANTE - COLCHESTER - Velma J. Brigante, 73, a lifelong resident of Colchester, died at home, with loving family at her side, on Monday, June 24, 2013, following a courageous battle with cancer. Velma was born in Colchester on Dec. 15, 1939, the daughter of Clifford and Winifred (Norris) Bean. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1957 and attended Trinity College. Velma was married at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester on Nov. 7, 1959, to John Brigante. She lived her life raising their family and working beside her husband at the Brigante Fruit and Vegetable Farm. Velma's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was actively involved in Holy Cross Parish activities. She had an infectious smile, loved music and singing, enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking pies, flower arranging, movies, and was an avid sports fan and a Red Hat Lady. Velma is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Brigante; five sons, Jim Brigante, Jeff Brigante and his wife, Elizabeth, Dan Brigante and his wife, Christy, Dean Brigante, and Scott Brigante and his wife, Julie; grandchildren, Sarah and her husband, Mike, Christopher, Jamie and fiance, Mike, Tony, Travis, Brittaney, Lindsey, Nick, Matthew, Jake, Matthew, Amanda, Daniel, and Mia; great-grandsons, Caleb, Devin, and Damien; her mother, Winifred Bean; brothers and sisters, Virgil Bean, Jim and Ginger Bean, Tom and Charlene Bean, Donna and Gary Boring, and Henry and Sheila Bean. Velma is also survived by the Brigante family, Frances Bosley, Coke and Lorraine Brigante, Mary and George Halnon, Peter and Marge Brigante, Catherine Halnon, and Frank and Dottie Brigante; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her sons, John and Sammy Brigante; her father, Clifford Bean; her sister, Violet; and brothers-in-law, Ray Bosley and Ray Halnon. Visiting hours will be on Friday, June 28, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester.
