WALTER CHIZINSKY

WALTER CHIZINSKY - SOUTH BURLINGTON - Walter Chizinsky died peacefully at home, in South Burlington, on Oct. 1, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, three children, and four grandchildren. Walter was born in 1926 and grew up in Springfield, Mass., where he attended Classical High School. After serving in the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps (1944-1946), he earned a B.S. at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1949); an M.S. at the University of Chicago (1950); and a Ph.D. at New York University (1960). Walter's career included teaching and administrative posts at Bennett College, Briarcliff College, Stephens College, and Bergen Community College. He retired from academic life in 1992. In 2005, Walter and his wife moved to Vermont to be closer to their grandchildren, Zoe and Eliza-Eve Leas; their daughter, Sandy Chizinsky; and her husband, Bill Miller. Walter's family is profoundly grateful for the deeply compassionate care he received through the hospice program of the Visiting Nurse Association, and wishes to extend particular thanks to Melinda Johnson, Penny Norful, Denise McLaughlin, and Melanie Pomerantz. Finally, Walter's family wishes to thank Dr. Marvin Klikunas and the staff of Given Health Care for their care and support.
