William Reid ("Reid") Pepin Jr.

On June 3, William Reid ("Reid") Pepin Jr., loving husband and father, warm and caring friend, passed from this life at the age of 85, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born and grew up in Lowell Massachusetts, and graduated from New Hampton School, Bates College and the McGill University Faculty of Dentistry. He cared for countless dental patients in Lowell for 44 years, and made his home in Dunstable, Massachusetts until retiring to Burlington, Vermont in 2005. For 47 years he shared his life with his great love, wife Berit Haugnaess Pepin, who predeceased him in 2010. He is survived by his sister Amey Wieting of York Harbor, ME, children Craig Pepin of Burlington, VT and Nora Hogan of Palm Coast, FL, and grandchildren Ethan and Reid Pepin, and Michael Hogan. Through his generosity, warmth and humility, he also leaves behind many friends, particularly in Dunstable, Moosehead Lake in Maine, Burlington, and Norway. His lifelong love of the mountains was kindled early in the New Hampshire Whites, continued through his active role in the Bates Outing Club, and then through hiking and skiing trips to Norway, Peru, Nepal and many other places. He also took great joy in racing many things, including cars, speedboats, hydroplanes and eventually sailboats. Calling hours will be held in Burlington, at 545 South Prospect Street, Unit 20, on June 18 between 6 and 8 pm, and a memorial service will be held at Dunstable Evangelical Congregational Church on June 24 at 3:00 p.m. A remembrance service will also be held in Rockwood, Maine, on July 22. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Parkinson Foundation.
