ARMAND METIVIER Obituary

ARMAND JOSEPH "SLIM" METIVIER - BURLINGTON - Armand Joseph "Slim" Metivier, 93, died in Starr Farm Nursing Center on July 7, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born in Burlington on Feb. 26, 1921, son of Euclide and Marie Louise (Barron) Metivier. Slim achieved the rank of First Sergeant, serving his country in the US Army in W.W.II. He married Antoinette (Valley) in Morganfield, Ky., on March 7, 1943. His career with St. Johnsbury Trucking spanned 35 years, starting as a driver, then dispatcher and retiring as a Terminal Manager in Berlin, N.H. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed golfing, gardening, ice fishing and he was a very loyal Red Sox fan. Always one to stay engaged in life, he took up painting in his retirement and leaves behind fabulous artwork for each of his children. He was very dedicated to his wife and family and is leaving behind many fond memories. He is survived by his son, Peter, of Bridgeport, N.Y.; daughters and their spouses, Susan and Mike Sterner of Enfield, Conn., Jeanne and Tom Riley of Colchester, Carol and Bob Topping of Harrison, Maine, Marie and Art Cohen of Essex Junction, and Pauline and Dave Muir of Belvidere; 10 grandchildren, Chris, Sheri, Caryn, Sharon, Alanna, Daniel, Matt, Krystal, David IV and Nikki; 12 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Billy, Emily, Ethan, Alyssa, Amanda, Grace, Logan, Mallory, Morgan, Abbie and Kayla; sister-in-law, Bernadette "Bernie" Metivier; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette (Valley) Metivier; son, Paul; siblings, Roland "Mitz," Alphege, Lucien, and Beatrice. The family would like to thank the nursing staff, LNA's social services, PT and OT, activities, kitchen, dining staff and office staff at Starr Farm for their compassionate care throughout Dad's stays, also Dr. Isaura Menzies, Kathy Murphy, NP, and Dr. Jennifer Gilwee for their exceptional care. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, in the Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Home, 85 N. Winooski Avenue, Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, at Holy Cross Church. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, after a luncheon in the church hall. Contributions may be made to the www.woundedwarriorsproject.org/donate. Armand's philosophy in life was to do one good deed a day. He will be greatly missed.

Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know you all have beautiful memories that will make you smile during this tough time.

Armand Metivier was the kindest & least vindictive person I ever knew. Armand was my father-in-law, but I always rejected that relationship. He was more like a father to me. When my biological father died in 1998, it comforted me to know that I still had one more father that loved me. I called him Armand but I loved that man as much as I loved my biological father.
Heaven has had a major upgrade since Armand Metivier arrived in Heaven. I can honestly say that Armand (Dad) has been the greatest person that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing!!
Armand has set a pretty high bar to get to Heaven. If I am ever fortunate enough to get to Heaven, the first heavenly being I am going to look for is my non-biological father -- Armand Metivier (my Dad)!!!!

One of my favorite memories of Papa was every Sunday morning, my grandfather and I would go down to the drug store, and he would buy the newspaper, and he would buy me orange tick tacs candy, I will never forget those times, I will forever miss you Papa, but I am so grateful you are not suffering anymore, and I know you have quite a lot of praising to do up in heaven, I love you so much.

To Sue, Mike, Chris, Sheri and all of the Metivier family,
Your Dad and Grandpa was such a sweet man. Though I only visited with him a few times, I recall how happy he was with life and how he made me laugh (he had quite a quick wit). He (and your Mom) really made me feel part of the family. I know you all will miss him very much but the happy memories of him will keep him with you.
