ARTHUR A. MARCHESSAULT - MILTON - Arthur A. Marchessault, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, in his home on Lake Arrowhead in Milton. Arthur was born Aug. 17, 1932, in West Warwick, R.I., the son of Antoine and Yvonne (Cote) Marchessault. He graduated from Saint Jean Baptiste School in West Warwick, R.I. He then worked in the textile mill before joining the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the military at the rank of Sergeant, he returned home where on May 28, 1955, he married the love of his life, Rita Jean LaPierre, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington. After a romantic honeymoon in Niagara Falls, N.Y., they made their home in Burlington. Art had a lifelong career as a carpenter where he proudly built and remodeled many homes, creating memories for hundreds of clients and friends with his many talents and warm personality. He took pleasure and was proud to teach his craft to his sons and nephews. Art and Rita pursued their love of antiquing and eventually opened their own antique shop in Colchester in 1972. Family members will continue to cherish his heirloom furniture and many other "works of Art" for generations. Arthur and Rita fostered a strong and loving sense of family that has brought children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren together for decades. He spent his later years as a devoted, compassionate caregiver for Rita after her spinal chord injury in 1992. They treasured every moment together, particularly when spending time with their family. In 2007, his beloved Rita passed away after 52 years of marriage. They are now rejoined for eternity. Art and Rita's unending faith in God guided them through tough times and provided the foundation for our strong family bond which will continue to hold us together throughout our lives. Arthur was an avid golfer, taking up the sport passionately later in life. He also enjoyed hunting and spent hours fishing (often with family or friends) on Lake Arrowhead, catching dinner on many occasions. Arthur is survived by his sisters, Blanche (Ritchotte), Claire (Garceau) and husband, Edmond, Yvonne (Kieran) and husband, Tom, and Jeanne (Dionne) and husband, Richard; children and their families: son, Guy and wife, Penny Marchessault, of Colchester, grandchildren, Adam and wife, Caty, Andrew and wife, Katie, and Diana, great-grandchildren, Evan, Aubrey, Owen, Allie, Jake and Brayden; son, Lee Marchessault of Manchester, N.H., grandchildren, Stacy and husband, John Burnett, and Lori Marchessault, their mother, Allison Marchessault, great-grandchildren, Spencer and Dylan; daughter, Kim Barber of Milton, grandchildren, Austin and wife, Sandy Schlegel-Barber, Amy and Kiley, their father, Harry Barber, great-grandchildren, Christopher, Colby and Devin; and daughter, Lyn and husband, Jim Feinson, of Richmond, grandchildren, Alexandra, Ben, and Lily; and devoted niece, Anna Dorey, along with many nieces, nephews and special friends.
