BARBARA ELAINE AIKEN - COLCHESTER - Barbara Elaine Aiken, 70, of Colchester, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Burlington on March 7, 1941, the daughter of Roderick and Lena (Blackmore) Quesnel. On Aug. 8, 1959, she married Edmund C. Aiken with whom she spent 52 years before her passing. Barbara was employed for many years by Fletcher Allen Health Care as a cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family during the holidays and she especially loved Christmas. Barbara always loved listening to country music and dancing, a passion Barbara and Edmund shared with their children. In her later years, Barbara valued every spare moment she could spend with her children and grandchildren. Her family will miss her dearly. Barbara is survived by her husband, Edmund; her children, Barbara Tourangeau and Timothy of Milton, Allen Aiken and Barbara of Colchester, Randy Aiken and Donna of Westford, JoAnn Heisler and Hal of Milton, Sara Giffin and Derrick of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Rosie Aiken of Burlington; sisters, Pauline and Fred Howard, Brenda and Dan Pecor, and Beverly and Ron Cardinal; sisters-in-law, Edith Aiken, Clarice and Dick Lane, and Judy Fitzpatrick; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Roderique and Lena Quesnel; two brothers, Dick and Bobby Quesnel; son, Eddie Aiken; and great-grandson, Christopher. A prayer service will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at 3 p.m. in the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road. Visiting hours will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The family will be holding a reception following the service for family and friends, details will be announced after the service.
