DEBORAH DATTILIO Obituary

DEBORAH ANN DATTILIO MILTON - Deborah Ann Dattilio, 58, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning at her home on Lake Road in Milton, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Burlington on June 30, 1952, the daughter of Vincent and Constance (O'Brien) Dattilio. Debbie graduated from Burlington High School and Champlain College. She was employed by IBM in Essex Junction for over 30 years, starting in manufacturing and working her way up to become a Corporate Business Control Auditor. In this role as an auditor she traveled to IBM locations all over the world, allowing her to visit Italy, Hungary, England, Singapore, Japan, and many other countries. Debbie's travels enabled her to see the wonders of the world from the Sphinx to the Blarney Stone, and from the Vatican to The Louvre. She loved to visit museums and art galleries wherever she traveled. At home Debbie loved spending time with her friends and family. Debbie was an avid reader, and had a great passion for music and art. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, painting and reading. She greatly treasured the special times she spent painting and working on projects with her mother. Debbie is survived by her mother, Constance Dattilio of Essex Jct.; stepfather, Vinnie Gianfriddo of Worchester, Mass.; brothers, Frank and his wife Mary of North Hero, and Vince and his wife Sally of Williston; sister, Susan and her husband Michael Thweatt of Georgia, Vt.; brothers, Mark and his wife Tammy of Warrenton, Va., and John and his wife Janet of South Burlington; sister, Bonnie Dattilio of Westford; her half-sister, Heather Dattilio and half-brother, Todd Dattilio. Debbie was predeceased by her father Vincent in 1986. Debbie also leaves behind her best friend, Kelly Cota and husband Tim of Grand Isle, who remained vigilantly by Debbie's side throughout her illness. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved very much. Debbie had a special bond with her niece Cassandra and sons Connor and Matthew "MJ" who was the light of her life. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Alicia Cunningham, Dr. Betty Morwood, Betsy Lyons and all the staff from VNA, and to all of the doctors and nurses who helped her throughout her difficult journey. Debbie was a kind and compassionate woman who loved animals, especially her Papillion's. In lieu of flowers, please have a warm thought of Debbie. For those who would like to make a donation in her memory, please consider making a donation to the Humane Society, 142 Kindness Court, South Burlington, VT 05403, or to the American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495, or to a charity of one's choice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. in St. John Vianney Catholic Church in South Burlington. Interment will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, Feb. 1st, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski.

My deepest sympathy for the Dattilio family. About two years ago, I was matched with Debbie to be my long distance mentor. Her work with IBM and love of technology were common topics we emailed about. I enjoyed receiving messages from her, as they always provided me with insight and encouragement. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the Dattilio family.

My sincere condolences to all of Deb's family. I worked with Deb in audit at IBM and she quickly became my mentor and most of all my really good friend. I have wonderful memories of the times spent with her and wish I had another opportunity to say goodbye. She is a wonderful woman and I am truly blessed for having known her. Please accept my sincere regrets and hope that time will begin to heal the hole that she has left in our lives..

To the entire Dattilio family - I am so very saddened to learn of Debbie's passing. I hired Debbie into the Lab Data Center as an Operator many years ago, and always had the very highest regard for her. She was a positive spirit with a Can-Do attitude, and she never fell short of expectations. She conferred with me about entering a career as an Internal Auditor, and I knew she was going to continue to be a success professionally, and a role model for those she came in contact with. Her enthusiasm was contageous! I'm so proud to have known her, sorry to have lost touch with her, and very very sad to learn of her passing. May her memories sustain you through this difficult time.

Vinnie, I am sorry to hear about Debbie. She was a super person who cared deeply about many things and people. I lost track of her and many others after leaving IBM in 2003 and then moving to Arizona in 2006. She was always ready to enjoy life and shared her humor with everyone...
Once, again, my deepest sympathies for you and your family.
