DENIS A. TURPIN - UNDERHILL - Denis A. Turpin, 62, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three daughters and his loving wife, on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Denis was born in South Burlington on July 2, 1949, to the late Florent and Josette Turpin. He grew up in South Burlington, graduating from Rice High School in 1967. Denis attended UVM, Wentworth College, and University of Wisconsin at AuClaire. Denis loved all things natural, as well as all things mechanical. His heart had a special place for Alaska and he shared his love for the state with his lifelong friend, Bill Russell, with whom he visited Alaska. He had extensive knowledge about the nature around us and loved to share that with his children as they were growing up. Denis also built race cars with Libra Racing, a time that he always remembered fondly, maintaining friendships with many of the men he worked with during that time of his life. He loved working on the rally circuit, even traveling to Europe and Mexico to do so. He also held his pilot's license and loved anything that had to do with airplanes and flight, especially bush planes. Denis was a true entrepreneur and put his whole heart into everything he did during his career. Along with his former wife, Sally Conant, Denis owned several successful businesses in Chittenden County, including the Net Result, which he and Sally started and ran through the 1980s. After selling the Net Result, they purchased and ran the Black Bear Inn for several years with their three daughters by their side. Through all of Denis' business ventures, his incredibly warm, patient and thoughtful personality made him well loved and he will be remembered by his staff, customers, guests and clients for his gentle manner, quick wit and welcoming nature. Denis ended his career working with his daughter and son-in-law, sharing his knowledge and experience with them at their business, where they were so lucky to have him. In 2008, Denis met his angel, his wife, Julie (Gosselin) Turpin. Though their time together was far too short, Denis and Julie shared a love and a friendship that is truly once in a lifetime. Denis' daughters feel so blessed to have her as a part of their family forever. In Denis' mind, his greatest legacy is the family that he leaves behind. His wife, Julie; his daughter, Courtney Boutin and husband, Steve; his daughter, Katie Lawlor and husband, Will; and his little girl, Molly. He was also the proudest possible grandfather, leaving Adeline, Lily and Isabella Boutin, and Avery and Will Lawlor. He also leaves his sisters, Isabelle Keiser and husband, Mike, and Lucy Turpin and husband, Wolfi Hedinger. He joins his parents, who went before him; as well as his dear friend, Steve Boutin. Denis was so proud of his girls and they were all "Daddy's girls." He made them feel so loved everyday and that love was shared with his four beautiful granddaughters and (finally) one grandson. He was so happy to be with his family whenever he could, whether at the beach in New Jersey or beside his pool. His love will live on through all of them. Denis' family would like to thank Dr. Zail Berry and the hospice nurses who cared for Denis, especially Brenda, who was with Denis and his family in his final hours. The care that he received from these phenomenally caring individuals made his final days a bit brighter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. John Vianney Church in South Burlington. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ready Funeral Home Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Dr., Essex Junction. Denis' final request was that donations be made to the Bella Fund in his memory, to support the expenses associated with his granddaughter Isabella's liver transplant. Donations may be sent to, The Bella Fund, c/o Nancy Boutin, 83 Cascade Street, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
