DONALD J. BUTLER Obituary
DONALD J. BUTLER - ESSEX JUNCTION - Donald J. Butler, 90, of Essex Junction, known to many as "Dandy" Don, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 with family by his side. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 9, 1922, and was always happy to share fond memories of his early years there. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Krass, on Feb. 16, 1946, and they spent 52 incredible years together before she passed away in 1998. He served in the U.S. Navy, specializing in Radio Communications and was a Veteran of W.W.II. He was very patriotic and loved the American flag. He worked at IBM in Essex Junction for 35 years as an Electrical Engineer. After retiring, he lived in South Carolina before returning to Vermont to be closer to his family. He enjoyed music, especially of the 1950's, and loved playing the guitar. He was an avid sports fan (the original Brooklyn Dodgers, NY Giants, and NY Rangers), and had a passion for animals, specifically a love for horses. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Rick) of Essex; and son, Larry (Lori) of Brookfield, Conn.; grandchildren, Casey (Dave), Ryan (Caitlin), Katelyn, Tyler, and Amy; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Lois Fischetti of Lakewood, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who have contributed to his health and well-being over the years. Special thanks to the extraordinary staff and caregivers at Shelburne Bay, VNA Hospice, Home Instead, and lastly the Vermont Respite House who made his final days as comfortable and as dignified as any family could hope for. A celebration of his life will be held at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction, on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m., with services immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495. As many have heard him say: "I know a little bit about a lot of things, but I don't know enough about you."
