DOROTHY C. HURLEY - MARVIN, N.C. - Dorothy C. Hurley, 89, of Marvin, N.C., passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013. Born in Long Branch, N.J., she lived her younger years in Puerto Rico and is a 1943 graduate of Central High School in San Juan, PR. She is the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Helen Guilbot. While residing in Long Branch, N.J., she held a variety of jobs, but was most proud of her accomplishment, in her adult years, of receiving her Certified Nursing Assistant's (CNA) certification. Dorothy's most treasured position was as companion to a dear friend and longtime Long Branch resident, a position she held for many years. Her compassion for others was one of her greatest strengths. Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin in 1976; and her siblings, Robert, Alice, Ronald and Joseph. Surviving are daughters, Gracellen Wilber (Richard) of Marvin, N.C., with whom she lived, and Colleen Ellis (Roger) of Cranford, N.J.; grand- children, Dawn Nelson (Paul), Meghan Halupka (Kevin), and Jenny Ellis; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Wainright of New Jersey, and Emily Guilbot of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at White Oak Manor of Waxhaw and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte, who exhibited skill and compassion beyond compare. Also to Dorothy's beloved and loyal caretaker, Sherry Blankenship, who became part of our family and who Dorothy considered a third daughter. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Heritage Funeral Home in Indian Trail, N.C., with a private service to be held at a later date in New Jersey.
