DOROTHY L. MCCARTHY, RN SOUTH BURLINGTON - Dorothy L. McCarthy, RN, 61, passed away peacefully at home, with her family by her side, on Jan. 4, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Montclair, N.J., Dec. 5, 1951. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Alice McCarthy; her daughter, Mary Alice; and three sisters, Anne McCarthy, Mary Matrale and Marion McCarthy. She was so grateful for the love and support of her family and friends. With her husband of 32 years, Patrick Buteau, she enjoyed watching their children Joseph, Roseanna and George grow into outstanding individuals. She was happy to have witnessed Joseph's marriage to Catherine Axelrod this past fall. Her passion and 35 years as a labor and delivery nurse brought her much satisfaction and joy from her work. Many thanks to the staff on Labor and Delivery at Fletcher Allen Health Care for making her job so rewarding. Her surviving sisters, Cathy Roth and Elizabeth Dmytriw, were special to her, as well as her girl friends, Allison Goss, Jill Hartman, Angela Pratt and Mary King, with whom she had many adventures. She will miss her many nieces and nephews; her water aerobics class at the Edge; her baseball family at St. Michael's College; and all her friends and acquaintances. She will be truly missed by all whose lives she has touched. Special thanks and appreciation to her primary physician and good friend, Carol Thayer; her oncology team of Dr. Kim Dittus, PA Penny Gibson and radiologist Ruth Heimann; and Hospice of Chittenden County for their exceptional care; and to her daughter, Roseanna, for the care and comfort she provided during her home confinement.
