GEORGE READINGTON PEASE - DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - George Readington Pease, 93, died on June 20, 2013, in Deerfield Beach, Fla., from a stroke. "Red" was born in Fitchburg, Mass., and moved to the Burlington area when he was five. He graduated from the University of Vermont and earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard. Red began his career in U.S. civil service, taking time out to serve in the Army Air Corps as a Flight Officer Navigator during World War II. He married Mary Shepherd in 1946 and set out for post war Germany where he helped rebuild the continent following the war. Red eventually rose to be the senior civil servant in the personnel field in the Air Force in Europe. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1958, he worked briefly with the Military Air Transport Service at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. He then transferred to US/AID serving in the Foreign Service in senior positions in Brazil and the Dominican Republic. He retired from government and remained in Brazil until his returned in 1994 to Deerfield Beach, Fla., where they enjoyed a long retirement. He was a world traveler, an avid reader, and dedicated student of six languages. Red was a devoted husband and father, survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; five children, Steven, Mark, Larry, Jenney, and Elizabeth (Buffy), along with their spouses; seventeen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. His brother, Birney and his wife, Barbara, live in Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla. Interment will be in West Dennis, Mass., at a later date.
