HENDRY K. SHUMSKI - BURLINGTON - Hendry K. Shumski, 83, of Burlington, passed away peacefully with family by his side, March 9, 2013, in the Vermont Respite House. Hendry was born in Springfield, Vt., on Sept. 1, 1929, the son of the late Stanley and Leona (Zarowska), Polish immigrants. Hendry graduated from Springfield High School in 1947, and attended St. Michael's College in Colchester. He retired from General Electric in 1992, after 25 years of service, and continued working as a consultant until he was 80. Hendry was a member of Masonic Lodge 100, Arrowhead Eagles, American Legion Post 091, and a life member of the Springfield Elks. He is the only Past Exalted Ruler to serve twice for Burlington Elks Lodge 916. Hank was an avid Yankee fan, who enjoyed gardening, watching his Syracuse Orangemen and professional golf, and visiting Saratoga and the casinos. He is survived by the love of his life, Nancy (Wood), with whom he enjoyed over 46 blissful years; son, Stan of Essex Junction; daughter, Deborah Smith and husband, Kevin, of Newport; daughter, Linda Prell and husband, Kevin, of Simsbury, Conn.; son, Scot and wife, Julia Flores, of Burlington; and eight grandchildren, Stan's daughter, Lena; Deborah's children, Leland and Samantha; Linda's children, Josh and Jon; and Scot's children, Hunter, Eva and Acadia. He is also survived by his brothers, Anthony and wife, Mary, of East Amherst, Stanley of Springfield, and Arthur and wife, Jane, of South Fork, Pa.; and nieces and nephews of both the Shumski and Wood family. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 So. Union St., Burlington.
