JAMES W. LITTLEFIELD SR. - FAIRFIELD (Pond)/ SPRING HILL, Fla. - James W. Littlefield Sr., 72, passed away in the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans on Saturday, May 26, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. A native of Waterbury, Jim was a graduate of Burdett College in Boston and Trinity College in Burlington. He was employed at the VT Air National Guard. Following retirement in 1994, Jim continued working part time during summers in Vermont at the Champlain Valley Exposition, as Director of Special Projects. Community involvement was a commitment that Jim enjoyed, including coaching Little League for 10 years and Youth Basketball for four years. He was an active member of the local and state Knights of Columbus, holding many offices, including VT State Deputy in 1979 and 1980. He was also elected trustee and president of the Village of Waterbury from 1967 to 1973. Jim actively participated in the community becoming Jaycee President, Crime Stoppers' President, Educational TV Auction Chairman and president of the Essex Rotary Club. In retirement at Timber Pines, Fla., Jim was involved with the Organ Club, New England Club and president of the Snowbird Club; as well as chairing many golf tournaments. Jim was also a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Florida and St. Mary's of St. Albans. He was a true family man, enjoying weekend camping trips during the summer, skiing, and swimming at the Y in the winter, and following every activity that the children participated in. And, if he was late for dinner, he made up for it and had breakfast with the clan the next morning. In retirement, Jim enjoyed golf, travel, reading nonfiction books, good food, dancing (that's how he and Claire met), plus, all spectator sports including Sunday afternoon and Monday Night Football on TV. Jim will be remembered as a man of strong faith, loving his family and committed to the community. He was well respected by all who knew him for his quick wit and ability to tell it like it was, never leaving a question as to his thinking and beliefs, and always ready to get things done. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Claire; sons, Jim Jr. (Laurie), and John (Kim), of Vermont; daughter, Amy Lausier (Reno) of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Jacqueline, Chadwick, Travis, Reno, Austin, and Garrett; and sister, Susan Bell (Ben), and brother, Thomas Littlefield (Patty), of Florida.
