Obituary Condolences

JEANNETTE C. CHEVALIER -- ST. ALBANS - Our mother, Jeannette C. Chevalier, a lifelong resident of this area, went home to her Lord in the arms of her children, Saturday, March 23, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was a most loving mother, keeping her children close to her. Mom, a forever optimist, had an amazing zest for life, always interested in "who are your parents and where do you come from?" Her love of music transcended down to her children, grandchildren, and even her great-grandchildren. In her younger days, she would sometimes sing on the rooftop of the Jessie Welden Inn. She loved to sing, party, laugh and play. She was the "Mayoress" of St. Albans and was loved by all. She made many friends wherever she went, enjoying winters in Venice, Fla. It was her winter playground. Her summer playground was at Hathaway Point in St. Albans at "Chevy's Shack." Jeannette was born on June 18, 1928, in St. Albans, the daughter of the late Charles and Leonora (Constantine) Ledoux. Jeannette was 84 years old. On Sept. 6, 1948, in Holy Angels Church, she married Gordon "Chevy" Chevalier, who preceded her in death on July 9, 2004. Jeannette was a 1946 graduate of Bellows Free Academy, and for many years was employed by the former New England Telephone Company as an Operator and then in the business office. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, the Mothers Club, Telephone Company Pioneers and Ladies Home Dem Group. Survivors include her eight children and their spouses, Charles and Kathy of Sheldon, James and Viki of Deltona, Fla., Marie and Richard Brissette of St. Albans, Jean Fitts of South Burlington, Robert and Kelly of Swanton, Thomas and Kimberly of Swanton, Peter and Jayne of St. Albans, and Claire and Christopher Hungerford of St. Albans; 24 grandchildren, Christopher, Nathaniel, Nicole, Shane, Michael B., Richard Jr., Daniel, Bridget, Karen, Michael D., Shaun, Matthew, Jeremy, Kyle, Lisa, Angela, Collin, Corey, Craig, Jordan, Jerrica, Charles, Eric, and Luke; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jeannette is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Esther Ledoux, and Helen Chevalier; special friend, Jane Magnant; "the Golden Girls;" and her friends in Venice, Fla. In addition to her parents and husband, Chevy, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Claire Louise; infant son, Christopher Joseph; brothers, the Reverend John C. Ledoux, and Leonard Ledoux; sister, Cecile Terry; and Chevy's sisters and brothers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street, with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy as celebrant. Interment will be later this spring in the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Private messages of condolence to the Chevalier family are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Northwestern Medical Center Auxiliary, 133 Fairfield St., St. Albans, VT 05478; or the , Vermont Division, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
