KEVIN M. FORTIN - WINOOSKI - Kevin M. Fortin, 47, a longtime resident of Winooski, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following a year long illness. "He fought long and hard and never gave up." Kevin was born in Burlington on July 16, 1966, the son of Paul A. and Barbara (Moore) Fortin. He was a graduate of Winooski High School and Champlain College. Kevin was employed in finance for several years, before pursuing his passion to become a chef. He went on to become a chef at St. Michael's College where he was known as the "Soup Guy." His specialty was the best spare ribs! Kevin enjoyed camping, fishing, horseshoes, Saratoga, and he loved the New York Yankees. Kevin is survived by his parents, Paul and Barbara Fortin; his brother and his wife, Chris and Kathy Fortin, and their children, of whom he was so proud, Matthew and Megan; his special aunt and uncle, Maureen and Ted Kontaxis; his dog, "Payton;" and several cousins, close friends, and special friend, Melody Bonanno. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Edwin and Alice Fortin, and Amy Moore; uncle, Malcolm Morris; and aunt and uncle, Theresa and Pete Senesac. The Fortin family wish to offer their sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at FAHC McClure 4 Medical ICU for their care and kindness. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Online condolences can be sent to www.lavignefuneralhome.com.
