KRISTINA JOHANNA (ALOI) GURKA - ESSEX JUNCTION - Tina J. Gurka, of Essex Junction, passed away suddenly, in the company of her brother, Mike, and her closest friends, on July 13, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care, in Burlington. Tina was born in Rochester, N.Y., on July 4, 1972. She graduated from Webster Thomas High School in 1990. She attended Kean University where she obtained both her undergraduate and master's degree in public administration. She worked for the Department of Homeland Security. Tina was extremely accomplished at her job receiving many awards and commendations for her leadership. One of Tina's greatest joys was in gathering her friends and family for holidays and other occasions, including Sunday afternoon football. Tina is survived by her mother, Christa Aloi; brother, Ed; her brother, Joe and his wife, Linda, and their children, Maddie, Alex, and Katie; her brother, Pete; her brother, Bob and his wife, Terri, and their children, Rachel and Adam; her brother, Mike and his wife, Terry and their children, Loren and Jamie; her sister, Brigitte; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Tina was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of twenty years, Phil Gurka; her father, Anthony Aloi; and her sister, Patty Aloi. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to friends and neighbors for their presence in Tina's life. Also thanks to everyone at Fletcher Allen Health Care's SICU. A celebration of Tina's life will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 28 East St., Essex Junction, at 3 p.m. A celebration will also be scheduled in Rochester, N.Y., at a later date.
