MARIE SULLIVAN SOUTH BURLINGTON - Marie Sullivan, 79, formerly of South Burlington, passed away peacefully in Starr Farm Nursing Home on Thursday, March 28, 2013, after a long illness stemming from an unfortunate accident. She passed away with her family at her side as she always wanted. Born Daisy Marie Colombotti on June 28, 1933, in the Bronx, N.Y., Marie took pride in her Italian heritage, never losing sight of her roots. Nonetheless, she moved her family to Vermont in 1975, drawn by the beauty of the state and an ability to provide a better quality of life for her family. Ever spirited, with a terrific sense of humor and sharp wit, Marie was known throughout the community for her artistic abilities; passionate about all things creative. She was a painter, and more prominently a knitter. Her sweaters were a fixture at the Champlain Valley Fair, for which she won many accolades. Her work also adorned the backs of many friends and relatives over the years. Marie cherished her golden years at The Pines in South Burlington, living independently and taking joy in the many friends she made there. A fixture at Barnes and Noble, she developed a great appreciation for literature during this time. She especially enjoyed novels that symbolized her life through struggle, perseverance and redemption. Marie is survived by her children, Jeanne Bouchard and husband, Jon, of South Burlington, Ron Sullivan and wife, Lori, of Starksboro, Linda DiSalvo and husband, Tom, of Cornwall, N.Y., and Bailey Osborne of Burlington; grandchildren, Brad Martin, Eric Martin, Amber Sullivan Webster, Ryan Sullivan, Thomas DiSalvo, Amy DiSalvo Jackman, Ashley Osborne, Tyler Osborne, Casey Osborne, and Madison Palmer-Osborne; and great-grandchildren, Gina DiSalvo, Thomas DiSalvo, and Lily Smail. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Flora and Louis Colombotti; and brothers, Albert, Raymond, and Ernest. The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the staff at Starr Farm Nursing Home and the VNA. Both organizations went above and beyond in Marie's final months to assist in providing her comfort and building relationships that brought her great joy in her final days. Per Marie's wishes, a private family gathering will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski. A service and burial at Resurrection Park in South Burlington will be held the following week. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, contributions can be made in Marie's name to the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, VT 05446.
