Obituary Condolences

MERRIEL "JOE" GREEN JR. - HINESBURG - Merriel "Joe" John Green Jr., of Hinesburg, died of lung cancer Feb. 10, 2014, in the VT Respite House. He was born on April 21, 1944, in Roxbury, to Merriel and Beverly (Steetser) Green. He was raised on the family farm in Mooers, N.Y. After graduation in 1963 from Mooers Central School, he worked for his father as a plumber and pipefitter. Joe was a master plumber and a member of Local Union 693 for 48 years, retiring in 2008. During his career he worked for many companies in New York and Vermont, and had also started his own business with his father, his brother, Mike, and later his nephew, Mike Jr. Joe enjoyed many pastimes, especially golf at Rocky Ridge, where he held a membership. He took "Sami" for long runs in the woods, and his relaxation was reading western novels. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Gail (Letourneau) Green; sisters, Betty Jean (Ernest) Sample, Mary Lou (Larry) Gadway, Pat Green, Diane (Charles) Hemingway, Tammi (Steve) Luce, and M.J. Barber; brother, Greg (Jodie) Green; plus a large extended family. He leaves close friends, Kathy, Stan, Nicole, Michelle, Craig Christman, and golfing partner, Matt Greene. He also leaves in-laws, Joyce (Ray) LeBlanc, Susan (Don) Metcalf, Stephen (Nan) Letourneau, Debora (Dennis) Varnon, Mark (Shannon) Letourneau; and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents,Merriel J. Sr. and Beverly (Sweetser) Green; son, Robert; and brother, Mike. At Joe's request there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. in St. John Vianney Church, 160 Hinesburg Road, South Burlington. Burial will be at a later date in Resurrection Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Ready Funeral and Cremation Service, 261 Shelburne Rd. in Burlington.
