MILDRED ELIZABETH GONYAW MAJOR - ST. ALBANS - Mildred Elizabeth Gonyaw Major, 93, formally of Island Pond, passed away on Jan. 20, 2013, in St. Albans. She was the widow of Rheal Major, who predeceased her in 1999. She was born in Albany Center, on Aug. 30, 1919, the daughter of Michael (Mitch) and Sarah (Sadie) Noyes Gonyaw. Mildred enjoyed traveling with her late husband, sewing for family members, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. She was a devoted housewife and mother and enjoyed working part time for the State of Vermont at the Brighton State Park for over ten years. She is survived by her children, Paulette Major of Barre, Patricia Oftedal and her husband, Sven, of Eastport, Maine, Lucian Major and his wife, Lucille, of Richmond, and Rene Major and his companion, Sharon Towne, of Colchester; by her grandchildren, Amy Moriarty and her husband, Tom, of Bennington, Christopher Major of Fairfax, and Diane Bouchard and her husband, Pierre, of South Burlington; and by her great-grandchildren, Taytum and Haley Bouchard of South Burlington. She is also survived by her brother, Mahlon Gonyaw and his wife, Madeline; her sister-in-law, Janet Major Doyon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Marvin and his wife, Donna, and Roland and his wife, Alice; and grandson, Marc Major. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 1199 Railroad St., Island Pond. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, from 1 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.
