Obituary Condolences

NANCY P. HOLDEN - SHELBURNE - On Jan. 16, 2014, Nancy P. Holden, of Shelburne, passed peacefully from this earth in her sleep at The Shores at Shelburne Bay. Nancy was born on Aug. 7, 1930, in Troy, N.Y., to Helen and Samuel Pitts. She grew up in Wynantskill, N.Y., and relocated to Vermont, with her family, in November of 1952. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Leland G. Holden. Nancy and Leland were happily married on Jan. 26, 1954. Together they raised four children and resided in Shelburne. Nancy was Secretary for the Shelburne Village School for many years, after which she became the merchandise buyer for the Vermont Wild Flower Farm. She also was a volunteer at the Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester. She had a true appreciation for travel, theatre, flowers, reading, fine wine and food, cooking and for spending time with family and friends. Nancy was a lifelong member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelburne. Nancy is survived by her son, Mark and wife, Debra, of Vancouver, BC; daughter, Lisa and husband, Curt Echo, of Shelburne, and their children, Kate, Mallory and Curt; daughter, Allison Mayo of Shelburne and her children, Sarah O'Neil and Alexandra Mayo; daughter-in-law, Dona Loso of South Hero; sister, Sandra and husband, Doug Prior, and their family of South Burlington; brother, Terry Pitts and his family of Essex Junction; and sister-in-law, Barbara Brigham and her family of Milton. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Leland, in 1988; son, Lee in 2007; and her second husband, Julian Goodrich, in 2010. Nancy will be fondly remembered by her many friends and loving family. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring staff at The Shores at Shelburne Bay, Shelburne. Services will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelburne on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. There will be no visiting hours. Memorial donations may be made to the S.D. Ireland Cancer Research Fund, PO Box 2286, South Burlington, VT 05407.
