PETER STOUT Obituary

PETER NEIL STOUT - BURLINGTON - Peter Neil Stout, 50, died in his sleep on Dec. 24, 2014, from complications of diabetes. Peter was born in Burlington on Nov. 30, 1964, the son of Neil and Marilyn Stout. He attended Taft, Edmunds, and Burlington High School, from which he graduated in 1983. He was a member of the BHS track and cross country teams, and received a Coach's Award for his dedication. Summers, he worked for the Burlington Parks Department. After high school, he attended Hampshire College, spending his junior year at a folk school in Nittylahti, Finland, and a summer internship at the United Nations. He received his BA degree in January 1990. He spent a decade in Washington, D.C., where he worked at the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress. Peter was an omnivorous reader and, while he was able, an avid long distance runner. His interests were vast and eclectic - he could debate everything from plotlines of "The Simpsons" to the fine points of international diplomacy. He was a gentle person. Peter is survived by his parents; sister, Hilary Stout of New York City, and her husband, Peter Truell, and his muchbeloved niece and nephews, Clare, Michael and John Truell.

Ted and I were saddened to learn of your loss. We fondly remember Peter as a skinny young lad often running by our house on Robinson Parkway! Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We hope that your grief is good and that you are sustained with many wonderful memories.

To Dr. and Mrs. Stout, Hilary and her family: my deepest condolences in this time of grief.
To humanity:our collective IQ just dropped sharply when Peter's bright light blinked out.
To my best friend: as Willa Cather wrote, you died from having lived. I will miss our long conversations, tall tales and hearty laughs over those frosty pints.
